We work with a limited number of quality, differentiated clients to develop and maintain mutually rewarding relationships with wholesale investors including superannuation and pension funds, insurance companies, statutory authorities, multi-manager/fund of funds and family offices.

Andreas established Breakwater Advisory in 2014, representing the formalisation of a consulting practice first established in 2003.

With over thirty years of investment industry experience, Andreas has held executive management positions at some of Australia’s leading investment houses and a number of global asset management firms. These include MLC, IAG Asset Management, Westpac Investment Management, ING Investment Management, Vontobel and Lend Lease.

Andreas has spearheaded distribution initiatives across start-up, development and turnaround situations. In his various roles, Andreas has had responsibility for sales and marketing, consultant relations, strategic planning and P&L management. He has been responsible for fund sales of over $10 billion across mainstream and niche strategies, for winning new endorsements from Australia’s leading asset consultants, and for launching multiple new product initiatives.

He has also had responsibility for the fiduciary management of a multi-billion dollar, multi-asset class portfolio and the allocation of capital in both private equity and direct property portfolios. Andreas has served as a director on the Investor Review Board of one of Australia’s foremost property management companies. He has been Investment Specialist, International Shares at one of Australia’s largest multi-managers, including emerging market investments. Andreas has served on the Investment Committee of a major Australian bank’s wealth arm, and he has had managerial responsibility for an ESG-focused governance advisory service.

Andreas has advised several boutique and institutional asset managers including Perennial Investment Partners, Eight Investment Partners, Eminence Capital Management, Deutsche Asset Management and Voya Investment Management Co.

Andreas’ qualifications include a Master of Business (Applied Finance) and a Bachelor of Business, (Management, Economics and Marketing). Andreas holds a Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), where he was the recipient of the Order of Merit award.

Possessing a wide variety of business experience, Andreas worked in the shipping and information technology industries prior to embarking on his investment management career.


Breakwater Advisory is active in the Australasian institutional investment market, with a particular focus on Australia. Government policies dating back to the 1980’s, aimed at modernising its retirement income system, have in combination with the domestic wealth management industry propelled the Australian investment market to become what is considered to be one of the largest pools of contestable funds under management globally. In total, pension assets contribute around 80% to the total value of managed funds in Australia, ranking it the fourth largest pension market in the world and, with a compound annual growth rate of 11.3% per annum (in USD terms), the fastest growing over the 20 years to end 2021.
